The "Pole Bowl"

Every Summer, old friends and fishing buddies gather for a truly unique fishing tournament in Venice, LA. It's a gritty, back breaking, old school style of primitive fishing in the heart of the Gulf Coast. A truly unique fishing tournament you'll want to see for yourself. The people, the food, the fishing - it's all worth the trip.

This ain't no crickets and cane poles fishing

Down in the heart of gulf coast fishing, there’s a tournament like no other.

It’s more of a reason to get together, have some drinks, cook some damn good food and tell more lies than anything. It’s not overly serious, there’s no big payout, no high stakes and the winners won’t even get their names in the paper (although they should).

However - there are prizes for the winners, so it’s a tournament nonetheless. But this tournament is different.

This tournament is for those who appreciate the simple side of fishing. The gritty, dirty, primitive side. The one on one fight between the angler and the fish.

A hook, line and a pole - that's it. There’s no drag, no fancy equipment, no high tech latest and greatest anything - it’s one on one tug of war, and something has to give.

And the day doesn't stop there...

In the afternoon when the boats tie up at the marina, another wave of good times roll in. Weigh-in followed by a big seafood cook out. Boiled shrimp, fried fish plus all the fixins. The vibes are high, the beer is cold, the winners brag and the losers laugh.

Everyone has their fill and at the end of the day - it’s been a helluva weekend on the water. This event is something everyone who loves to fish should check out at least once. Go there, get the tee shirt, bow up on some big fish using a big pole.

Eat your Wheaties though – or you might end up in the water.
